Store Summer Sports Equipment in Fall

  1. Step 1

Gather up all of your summer sports equipment at the beginning of fall. You might have to ask your kids to search for all of their toys if they tend to leave things all around the yard.

  2. Step 2

Sort through all of the sports equipment and figure out what needs to be put away. You might want to put away your croquet set and badminton net, but consider keeping the baseball gloves out for a few autumn games of catch.

  3. Step 3

Box it all up. You should consider putting all of the gear for each sport in a single box. This method can help you keep track of where everything is stored.

  4. Step 4

Keep track of which items go in each box. Write out the contents on a piece of paper or on the box iteself. It might seem tedious to keep track of everything, but if you need something later, this reference chart will be very handy.

  5. Step 5

Label your boxes on the side and top. You can label them any way you'd like, either with numbers or by the sport the box holds. Remember to label your paper chart the same way!

  6. Step 6

Bring the boxes to your attic, garage, porch or wherever you plan to store them. If you store your fall sports equipment in boxes, you'll probably want to swap the summer gear for the fall gear.

Tips & Warnings
  • This seasonal change might be a good time to consider throwing out old broken sports equipment. Similarly, if you or your kids have outgrown any equipment, consider giving it to a goodwill charity.
  • Keep your list of box contents in a safe place where it won't get thrown out by mistake.
  • Enlist the help of your family when pack up your sports equipment. There's no reason this should be a one-person job.
  • Be careful about lifting boxes that are very heavy. Remember to lift with your legs and not your back.
  • Check with your kids before you pack each item to save you the hassle of having to dig things out later or comfort a teary child who's upset that his favorite toy got packed away.
