Have Fun and Help Others at the Festival Navideno en la Calle Ocho
-
1
Be one of the 50,000 or so people who gives a gift to the toy drive, which is the primary purpose of the Festival Navideno en la Calle Ocho celebration. Brighten the holidays for a needy child. It will make the portion of the parade where the toys are distributed to children all the more enjoyable.
-
2
Know that the Festival Navideno en la Calle Ocho is typically held in Los Angeles on the first or second weekend of December. Check ahead of time for firm dates so you don't miss out on the fun.
-
-
3
Head to the intersection of eighth Avenue and Vermont Street, the headquarters of the Festival Navideno en la Calle Ocho. Admission to the festival grounds is free, but parking probably isn't.
-
4
Drop your toy donation off in one of the donation bins, or ask festival staff to direct you to an appropriate place to leave your gift.
-
5
Celebrate the merriment of the holiday season and the festival's noble purpose by enjoying cuisine from Latin America and around the world, visiting the petting zoo and letting loose on the carnival rides. The festival is held rain-or-shine, so it might be advisable to pack an umbrella or two. Los Angeles is sunny and mild year-round, but rain appears more frequently during the late fall and winter months.
-
6
Stick around to see the parade wrap up on Sunday. That's when the presents kindly donated by visitors to the festival are handed out to the city's many needy children. It's an excellent way to celebrate the holiday spirit.

The event is in its 11th year, now in 2008. The founder, Edgar Palacios, is a local businessman that still has his office on 8th and Normandie Streets. The event is a non-profit event, sustained by local sponsors and all the gifts in the past 10 years have been purchased prior to the event and distributed at the event. Over 500,000 toys have been given away at the Christmas event in the past 10 years. Last year, the Producer, Conciertos America Entertainment, invited the Korean community to join the event, with added booths and Asian talent on the stages. It is no longer just a Latino event. -
