Understand that Dia del Maestro is a very important day of recognition in Mexico. Some traditions dictate that students will not only give their teacher(s) gifts and throw parties in-class, but will also take the teacher out for dinner at a traditional Mexican restaurant. Make reservations early if you want to do this for your teacher, as your class certainly won't be the only one in the city making such a gesture.

Tips & Warnings
Teachers' Day is an unofficial holiday throughout the United States, held on the Tuesday of the first full week of May. Some schools, even ones with significant Mexican and Latino populations, hold the event on this day rather than the official date of May 15. The second Wednesday in May is also a common date for festivities to be held in Los Angeles.
