Things You'll Need:
- Clothing for inclement weather
- Cash for admission
-
Step 1
Enjoy the continuous entertainment of German brass bands, yodeling, folk dancing, singing, "Schuhplattler," sing-alongs and dancing while celebrating Oktoberfest in Glendale, Wisconsin.
-
Step 2
Watch as the Oktoberfest Queen, or the "Muenchner Kindl," is crowned on the first Saturday of the celebrations to kick off the event. One young woman of German heritage is chosen to represent the festival each year.
-
Step 3
Munch on German specialties like charbroiled chicken, bratwurst, "spanferkel" (a young pig spit-roasted over an open pit), potato salad, coleslaw and bread as you lounge in the scenic park area.
-
Step 4
Be sure not to miss out on other featured German foods like Rollbraten (sliced roast pork on a kaiser roll), hot dogs, pretzels and sweet roasted almonds. For dessert, the festival will likely present scrumptious fruit strudel, tortes and homemade cakes.
-
Step 5
Celebrate Oktoberfest by drinking the night away with beverages such as imported and domestic German beers, wine coolers, soft drinks and coffee.
-
Step 6
Visit the Bavarian Festival Garten, which is where the main festivities take place. This Alpine-style pavilion features weather curtains on the side to keep out rain and wind, as well as picnic tables and benches that seat up to 2,000. There are also tables under the trees out in the park if you prefer to watch the action from more of a distance.
