If you want to celebrate Oktoberfest in Detroit, Michigan, you have two options, each of which offers fun in a unique way. The first option is to partake in the celebration of Oktoberfest at Historic Trinity, Inc, a non-profit organization that preserves and supports the Detroit Community. The second is a cruise on a ship on the Detroit River, complete with Oktoberfest festivities happening aboard.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Formal attire or clothing appropriate for a cruise
Step1
Dine at the Historic Trinity's Oktoberfest dinner and auction. This black-tie dinner is a fundraiser for the Historic Trinity, which aims to help develop and fund programs that assist the needs of the Detroit metropolitan community. The dinner is open to all members and friends of the Historic Trinity.
Step2
Bid on exclusive items in the "Luck of the Draw Auction" at the Historic Trinity dinner, or sponsor the event as a platinum gold, silver or bronze-level donor. Sponsors are recognized through mention in the program guide, the auction list and the invitation.
Step3
Enjoy features of the dinner such as an opening reception, an elegant four-course meal, "oompah" music, brewmeisters at each table and "The Blessing of the Hops."
Step4
Cruise aboard an elegant vessel on the Detroit River in celebration of Oktoberfest, and to raise funds for a local charity. This event typically runs from 4 to 8 p.m., and proceeds benefit a different charity or fund each year. Nearly 200 visitors often turn out for the affair.
Step5
Dine on Bavarian food served on the ship and German wines and beers.
Step6
Enter into the German Costume contest! Prizes are offered for the best adult and child outfit.
Step7
Listen to, sing along with and dance alongside the entertaining music of the Gemulichkeit aboard the ship.

Tips & Warnings

  • Both the dinner and the cruise take place in late September or early October. Check with the venues in late summer for exact dates.
  • The Historic Trinity is located at 1345 Gratiot Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, 49207.
  • If you're looking for a kid-friendly event, celebrate Oktoberfest by going on the cruise instead of attending the dinner.
