Things You'll Need:
- Map of San Francisco
- Camera
- Small bag for souvenirs
-
Step 1
Find your way through the winding streets of San Francisco to find Oktoberfest by the Bay. The Fort Mason Center is located near the Golden Gate Bridge off of Highway 101 and the Festival Pavilion is located on the northeast side of the center. The event organizers have included a helpful and colorful map on the Oktoberfest by the Bay 2007 website (see Resources below).
-
Step 2
Visit the headlining stage to see the Chico Bavarian Band or another hometown band. This local group plays polkas and other authentic German music while encouraging the crowd to dance along. They have played at Oktoberfest by the Bay for several years and have quite a cult following among festival goers.
-
Step 3
Bring coworkers, family and friends to the Gemutlichkeit Night on the opening night of Oktoberfest. A premium admission fee gives a ticket holder a souvenir glass, a bratwurst and a choice of local brewer Spaten's various products. Groups of more than 10 can reserve a table in the late afternoon to celebrate long into the night.
-
Step 4
Purchase a Saags smoked bratwurst at one of several vendors throughout the Festival Pavilion. Saags is a San Francisco, California based sausage maker that helps visitors celebrate authentic German food at events like Oktoberfest.
-
Step 5
Sit down in the beer tent and enjoy a beerstein filled with Spate's Oktoberfest beer. Spate is a California brewery that promotes its entire line of beers at Oktoberfest. A glass of beer and a bratwurst help you festively celebrate German culinary heritage.
-
Step 6
Gather your family to attend Oktoberfest any night to take advantage of discounted prices. Teenagers between 13 and 17 get in for a third of adult admission and children under 12 gain entrance for free.
