  1. Absorb Authentic Oktoberfest Festivities in Helen

    • 1

Head to Helen, Georgia via Atlanta's international airport. This southern transportation hub facilitates flights from all over the country and has major freeway access from all points to the north, south and west.

    • 2

Determine where the Festhalle is located in relation to your hotel or resort. The Festhalle is the location of most Oktoberfest activities and sits on the eastern side of the village. Use the City of Helen's general map to determine the best walking path from your resort to Festhalle (see Resources below).

    • 3

Start to celebrate Oktoberfest in Helen with the annual parade past the Festhalle. Local businesses and Oktoberfest celebrants march past onlookers to the sound of authentic German music. This event always takes place on the first Saturday of Oktoberfest.

    • 4

Plan on attending Helen's Oktoberfest on Sundays to save money. There is no admission fee on Sundays throughout the entire festival. Be aware, though, that this can also be the most crowded day of the festival as well.

    • 5

Avoid traveling to Helen at the end of October if you want to celebrate Oktoberfest. The festival grounds close the last 3 days of the month for Halloween festivities.

    • 6

Enjoy the music of bands like Al Nowak and the Edelweiss Orchestra on several occasions while visiting this northern Georgia town. The musical acts at the Helen Oktoberfest set up for entire weekends to keep authentic German music in the area.

    • 7

Try authentic German foods, like sauerkraut and schnitzel from the various vendors available in and around the Festhalle. Some vendors will even share recipes with you for common dishes.
