How to Celebrate Oktoberfest in Kitchener, Waterloo, Canada

The first Oktoberfest in Kitchener Waterloo, Canada was held in 1969. Today, the Kitchener Waterloo Oktoberfest is an international event that attracts more than 700,000 visitors each October for 9 fun-filled days. Recognized as North America's greatest Bavarian beer festival, the special event celebrates the finest in German music, food and beverage while honoring both traditional Oktoberfest activities and activities unique to the Kitchener Waterloo celebration such as the Oktoberfest Ball and the Oktoberfest Idol.

Instructions

    Plan Your Oktoberfest Canada Trip

  1. Step 1

    Make hotel and flight reservations at least 6 months in advance. The Kitchener Waterloo Oktoberfest is the second largest German festival in the world after Oktoberfest in Munich.

  2. Step 2

    Avoid long lines by purchasing tickets in advance and receiving a Guaranteed Arrival Time (GAT). This will grant you immediate entry into any one of the 15 Festhalle beer tents at the time specified on your ticket.

  3. Step 3

    Arrive at the Region of Waterloo International Airport. Arrange for transportation to your lodging accommodations in advance.

  4. Step 4

    Take advantage of the "Take a Bus on Us" campaign that provides free shuttle service to and from the Festhallen area. Designated Drivers can also join the Pepsi Program and receive free Pepsi products at any Festhalle throughout your visit and be entered in a drawing for several prizes.

  5. Step 5

    Celebrate Oktoberfest, safely. Use a map and denote the location of important facilities such as triage stations, police booths, Red Cross tents and Lost and Found.

    Participate in the exciting Waterloo Treasure Hunt and celebrate Oktoberfest by following a trail of clues that could lead you to a key which opens King Ludwig's treasure chest. The hidden key is worth $3000.

    Enjoy your favorite German beer with a festive German meal.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy your Festhalle tickets in advance of the event. Most sell out prior to the start of Oktoberfest.
  • There is a strict no smoking policy at the event, enacted by the Province of Ontario.
