Enjoy Your Stay

Step1
Leave your car at home. There is no official museum parking, and finding parking space in New York is nearly impossible. Instead, take the subway to the Rockefeller Center stop and walk three blocks to the museum.
Step2
The museum opens at 10:30 a.m. and closes at 5:30 p.m. every day except on Fridays (when the museum closes at 8:00 p.m.) and Tuesdays, when the museum is closed.
Step3
Many famous works of modern art are showcased in the MoMA, including Andy Warhol's "Campbell's Soup Cans" and "Water Lilies" by Claude Monet. Works by Cézanne, Matisse, van Gogh, Picasso and Dalí can also be seen here.
Step4
There is an excellent sculpture collection at MOMA which is organized by decades, with prominence given to works created between 1940 and 1960.
Step5
MOMA has special film screenings and events. A mix of foreign movies, art films and documentaries. Screenings are held several times a month and are available to visitors without extra fees.
Step6
Ask about recent acquisitions. The museum publishes a regular brochure about new works entering the museum. Most of these works are modern rather than classics and are an interesting way to discover what direction the museum is taking in growing its collection.

Tips & Warnings

  • The museum houses 150,000 works of art, 22,000 films and 300,000 books, making it one of the largest museums in New York. If you're only in town for a few days and can't come back to the museum, decide beforehand what you want to see, as you won't be able to cover the entire collection in a single visit.
  • If you're looking for the perfect e-card for an art lover, check the Museum of Modern Art's website to access a collection of e-cards and other free items (see Resources below).
  • To learn more about conservation efforts at the museum, explore the archives, read interviews with distinguished artists and play a few unique perceptual art games, visit the MoMA's official website. Once there, you can also view the museum's floorplan or shop for unique items at the gift shop.
