Becoming a Wiccan is a very personal decision and one that you should not take lightly. Keep in mind that Wiccans do not have an ironclad set of rules governing how the religion should be practiced. This means that you may find big differences between Wiccan groups. Read on to learn more.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

    Become a Wiccan

  1. Step 1

Network with Wiccans online. The easiest way to get started in Wicca is to get in touch with others who are already practicing. Because Wicca remains misunderstood, many people use the Internet to communicate, since it's easier to remain anonymous there.

  2. Step 2

Keep an open mind. No matter where you learn about Wicca, you're likely to run into things that will surprise you. Give yourself time to take everything in before you decide to join and become a Wiccan.

  3. Step 3

Look for a local coven. If starting on your own feels intimidating, look for a group that works locally and welcomes beginners. Many Wiccan covens only accept new members if one of the previous members leaves or if they have decided to expand and divide the original grouping.

  4. Step 4

Start small by asking to consult with the head of a coven or Wicca school. By doing so, you give yourself the chance to learn about Wiccan membership and rituals without the pressure of getting to know a group.

  5. Step 5

Join a Wicca school. The "WitchSchool" and The Church and School of Wicca are two well-respected online schools that accept beginners (see Resources below). Both schools offer workshops, books and materials for those interested in joining or learning more about Wicca.

Tips & Warnings
  • Because Wicca is a patchwork of many different traditions and beliefs, you may find during your research that not all schools and groups agree on all principles. Some basic principles, however, are universal, such as the Wicca Rede and the celebration of the Sabbats. When looking for a coven, make sure you agree with the basic principles followed by the group.
  • Wiccans do not preach or look to bring new people into their religion. In fact, you may have a hard time finding somebody who freely admits to being a Wiccan. If you run into people who seemly overly eager to have you join them, be cautious. They may either be part of a cult or using the word Wicca to hide ulterior motives.

on 1/28/2009 I have flagged your comment helpinghand7777 because it is a staggering combination of offensiveness, arrogance and incorrectness.
While I trust that your admonishments to the author of this eHow were well intended (since you are apparently a Christian and your religion mandates that you 'witness' and 'suffer not a Witch to live' (despite that unfortunate mistranslation) They still have no place as a comment on an eHow designed to enlighten people on the nature of Wicca.

For the record, Wicca is NOT a satanic practice. If you had even a passing familiarity with the true nature of Wicca instead of the misrepresentations of your pastor/priest/preacher you would know this. Jesus Christ, (or Yeshua bin' Josef, as he would have known himself) while ostensibly a powerful being in your life, may or may not hold as great a potency for others. If you doubt this, as I am sure you do, please
