Step 1
Know the regular step count of the slow-slow-quick-quick. This is done in a circular motion as a square step and consists of the swaying of legs during certain steps.
-
Step 2
Choose your music. To perform a feather step, you will need some form of flowing, perky and quick rhythm music. Popular music to perform this style of dance combines slow and quick tempos together.
-
Step 3
Realize that there are several variations of the foxtrot. Faster foxtrots become the swing dance or the jitterbug and are known as a "one-step" or "quickstep."
-
Step 1
Count "1-2" and put your left foot backwards and center your body.
-
Step 2
Use a quickstep and count "3" while your right foot moves to the side, swaying through to the left (instead of a lift and place down). Your right shoulder should lead the way.
-
Step 3
Swing your left foot back on a quick count "4."
-
Step 1
Step forward on the right foot and count "1-2."
