Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mac OS Tiger with Expose enabled
  1. Step 1

Start your Mac as you normally would. You do not need to be the system administrator to use Mac OS Tiger's Expose features. They are native to the operating system and thus available to all users.

  2. Step 2

Open as many programs as you would like to be running to test and use Expose. There is no limit to the number of applications you can have operating at once (you can even have multiple versions of the same application running simultaneously).

  3. Step 3

Press the F9 key to instantly tile all of the open and running windows. This will shrink each window down to a size the accommodates all of the others. If you move your mouse over a window it will display the window's title for easier viewing.

  4. Step 4

Press the F10 key to tile all of the open windows running the chosen application. For example, if you are running more than one instance of Safari or Firefox and you have set focus to one of their windows, pressing F10 will gray out all other windows that are not Safari or Firefox. Then you can scroll over them as you did with the F9 function to display the title.

  5. Step 5

Press the F11 key when you simply want to minimize all windows and have a clear view of your desktop. Pressing F9 from here will tile the windows again for viewing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Mac OS Tiger defaults the F9, F10 and F11 keys to operate Expose so there is no need to set it up within the operating system.
  • Limit the number of open programs you have at once to help reduce overall screen clutter.
  • Try to keep the number of open programs at a minimum to reduce the strain on your processor as well as your system memory.
  • Be aware that Expose doesn't close active programs, it just helps you decide where you wish to set focus within the desktop. To actually close active programs, you need to close it from within the application itself.
