Things You'll Need:
- Mac OS X Tiger with Automator
-
Step 1
Click the "Go" menu tab on the Finder bar.
-
Step 2
Click "Applications."
-
Step 3
Click the "Automator" icon in the Applications window.
-
Step 4
Wait for the Automator to fully load.
-
Step 5
Drag and drop the currently available actions from the list to the Automator window. This will create a list of actions that will occur in sequence according to your current selections.
-
Step 6
Choose actions that make logical sense, or actions that compliment one another. For example, you could choose "Open File Folder" and then choose "Maximize Folder" to complete both tasks. You could also choose "Open File" and "Save on Exit" to eliminate having to complete the step manually.
-
Step 7
Set up Automator to open Safari and then have it access your email account for you. This makes it easy to check your email without having to load additional software into memory.
-
Step 8
Create a simple Copy/Paste routine when you need to move large groups of files. For example, photographers and graphic designers may want to move a large number of files from one folder to another to get approval on their work.
-
Step 9
Create a script in Automator to match your specific needs. More advanced users can create scripts and actions using AppleScript and Objective-C. These scripts can then be used in the same way as the pre-installed actions.
