Step 1
Click on the apple icon in the upper left hand corner of your screen. Select "System Preferences" from the pull down menu.
-
Step 2
Select "dock" in the personal section of the System Preferences program. The dock is what Mac OS Tiger calls its sidebar.
-
Step 3
Notice the options available to customize your dock. Here you can change the size the dock and select the option to magnify icons that you drag the mouse over. You can also change the screen location of your dock and set different visual options.
-
Step 4
Choose the options that work best for your dominant hand and work habits.
-
Step 5
Close the System Preferences program by click on the red "x" in the upper left corner of the window. Your preferences are automatically saved.
-
Step 6
Change the icons that appear in your dock. By default, Mac OS Tiger includes lots of different applications in the dock. You might not use some of these programs and want to remove them. You also might want to add other programs that you use often.
-
Step 7
Click and hold the mouse button down on an icon for a program you don't want in the dock. Drag the icon away from the dock and release the mouse button. You should see the icon disappear in an animated poof of smoke, signaling that the icon will no longer be in your dock (although it will remain an active application).
-
Step 8
Navigate through your hard drive and find another program you'd like to add to the dock. Click the mouse on that program and hold it down, dragging it into the dock. Once you release the mouse, the program is now added to your sidebar.
-
Step 9
Set up the order of applications in your dock in a logical progression. For many people, this order is determined by frequency of use, alphabetical order or visual color order. Just click and hold on the icon in the dock and drag it to a different spot and release the mouse button to set the icon in that spot.
