Tips & Warnings
  • Firewall is software on your computer that is designed to analyze files that come onto your computer from a public network and determine if they pose a threat. Safe files are allowed, while files that might not be safe are blocked. The first time you use a new program and it attempts to access the Internet or write a new file to your computer, your firewall will generally make you aware of the situation, tell you the risk and ask you whether or not you want to continue.
  • Spyware is software that is installed on your computer surreptitiously, without your knowledge or consent. These files are usually advertising from websites. These excess files on your computer can slow it down and affect the way Windows Vista operates. In order to keep Windows Vista running smoothly, it is best to do periodic checks for spyware.
  • It is not necessary or recommended that you block all connections with your firewall. It should only be used as the most extreme of measures.
  • Some pop-up windows will refuse to vanish until you have installed a certain toolbar or changed your homepage. Do not change or install anything, as it may be dangerous to your computer.
