Although rare, there are risks associated with brow lift surgery. To begin to prepare for any complications that could arise after the surgery, you must make sure that you are in good health and do not have any diseases or pre-existing medical conditions before you make the decision to undergo the procedure. Communicate with your surgeon. Together, you can discuss pre-operative instructions, talk about what you can expect during your recovery period and learn how to take precautions that can lessen the risk of complications.

Instructions

Prepare for the Risks Associated With Brow Lift Surgery

  1. Step 1

Choose your surgeon carefully. Ask the doctor for a list of referrals whom you can call. Your doctor is the one you will turn to if you experience any of the complications associated with brow lift surgery.

  2. Step 2

Communicate with your doctor. Being open and forthright during your first consultation is your first step in beginning to prepare for any of the risks associated with the surgery.

  3. Step 3

Ask questions. Tell your doctor that you are interested in hearing the worst-case scenarios about risks involved with the surgery. Let her know that you don't need her to sugarcoat the information.

  4. Step 4

Prepare yourself emotionally. You must be mentally and emotionally stable to undergo a cosmetic procedure. Some depression is common after any cosmetic surgery, but a pre-existing emotional problem could make it a more serious issue.

  5. Step 5

Refrain from taking any product containing aspirin for at least 2 weeks prior to your surgery.

  6. Step 6

Stop smoking at least 2 weeks before your surgery, and preferably longer. Even second-hand smoke hinders blood flow, which can make the healing process more difficult and can lead to some of the complications associated with brow lift surgery.

  7. Step 7

Prepare financially. Brow lift surgery is expensive, but it can become even more so if you experience complications like the loss of ability to raise your eyelids, loss of sensation around the incision, the formation of a broad scar or a serious infection. The need for additional surgery could be a financial blow if you are not prepared for it.

  8. Step 8

Follow your doctor's directions regarding medication to minimize any risks. He will tell you if there are any medications or supplements you should stop taking before and right after your surgery. Make sure that you do take any medications that he prescribes.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your hair is short, you may want to let it grow longer so that it will cover the incisions and scars you will have after surgery.
  • If you color or perm your hair, do it several days prior to your surgery. You cannot use hair products or apply makeup after surgery until your doctor gives you the O.K. They may interfere with healing.
