Step 1
Choose your surgeon carefully. Ask the doctor for a list of referrals whom you can call. Your doctor is the one you will turn to if you experience any of the complications associated with brow lift surgery.
-
Step 2
Communicate with your doctor. Being open and forthright during your first consultation is your first step in beginning to prepare for any of the risks associated with the surgery.
-
Step 3
Ask questions. Tell your doctor that you are interested in hearing the worst-case scenarios about risks involved with the surgery. Let her know that you don't need her to sugarcoat the information.
-
Step 4
Prepare yourself emotionally. You must be mentally and emotionally stable to undergo a cosmetic procedure. Some depression is common after any cosmetic surgery, but a pre-existing emotional problem could make it a more serious issue.
-
Step 5
Refrain from taking any product containing aspirin for at least 2 weeks prior to your surgery.
-
Step 6
Stop smoking at least 2 weeks before your surgery, and preferably longer. Even second-hand smoke hinders blood flow, which can make the healing process more difficult and can lead to some of the complications associated with brow lift surgery.
-
Step 7
Prepare financially. Brow lift surgery is expensive, but it can become even more so if you experience complications like the loss of ability to raise your eyelids, loss of sensation around the incision, the formation of a broad scar or a serious infection. The need for additional surgery could be a financial blow if you are not prepared for it.
-
Step 8
Follow your doctor's directions regarding medication to minimize any risks. He will tell you if there are any medications or supplements you should stop taking before and right after your surgery. Make sure that you do take any medications that he prescribes.
