There are two types of brow lift surgeries. In traditional brow lift surgery, an ear-to-ear incision is made across the top of the forehead behind the hairline. Muscles are tightened, excess skin is removed and forehead skin is lifted up to the eyebrow line. In contrast, endoscopic surgery requires only five or fewer small incisions. The hairline remains untouched and there is usually less scarring. Since it is less invasive, patients recover faster from endoscopic surgery.

    Recover From Brow Lift Surgery

  1. Step 1

Discuss with your surgeon what type of brow lift surgery you will be having and exactly how long your recovery should take.

  2. Step 2

Take your doctor's advice very seriously. Take any precautions he suggests. This will reduce your risk of complications.

  3. Step 3

Make plans to have someone drive you home after surgery and help you out around the house while you recover.

  4. Step 4

Stock up on over-the-counter medication for post-operative pain and discomfort. Ask your surgeon for a list of acceptable painkillers and a second list of painkillers or other OTC medications to avoid.

  5. Step 5

Take any antibiotics your doctor prescribes as directed to lessen the pain and prevent infection.

  6. Step 6

Plan to spend the first 2 days after surgery in bed. Keep your head elevated.

  7. Step 7

Shower and shampoo only after the bandages are removed. This is usually within 2 days.

  8. Step 8

Avoid any demanding activity that raises your blood pressure for 2 to 3 weeks. This includes jogging, aerobics, weightlifting, bending, heavy housework and sex.

  9. Step 9

Steer clear of direct sunlight after brow lift surgery and always use sunscreen. However, avoid using sunscreen immediately after surgery until your doctor gives you the go-ahead.

  10. Step 10

Eat a balanced, healthy diet before and after surgery. It will help speed your recovery. Before your surgery, prepare some nutritious meals that can be frozen and warmed up while you recover.

  11. Step 11

Expect some depression. It is normal and will likely go away soon.

  12. Step 12

Call your doctor immediately if you are experiencing excessive pain or you have any symptoms that don't seem normal.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are a candidate for brow lift surgery and you smoke, you must quit at least 2 weeks before the surgery. You may also not be a good candidate if you are exposed to second-hand smoke. Smoking decreases blood flow to body tissues and can result in poor wound healing, infection and increased scarring.
  • Don't use any sort of skin irritant, including dyes, tints or skin-care products, for at least several days.
  • Read the consent form you are given to sign carefully. It will explain the procedure to you, including its risks, possible complications and any alternative treatments.
  • Tell your surgeon about any medications you are taking, your history of disease and any complications you have ever experienced after surgery.
