Things You'll Need:
- Pom poms
- Water and energy snacks
- Cheerleading shoes
- Megaphone
- Uniforms
- Sign and paint
-
Step 1
Purchase a pair of rubber soled court or cross training shoes online at stores like Sport World (see Resources below). Avoid rough sole shoes since you may need to stand on your teammate's hands and shoulders. The shoes should have good ankle support and fit the feet snugly.
-
Step 2
Be sure that the team uniform clearly identifies the school or team being represented. You should stand out to the crowd, so select bold colors and easy to read fonts.
-
Step 3
Select pom poms at Spirit Squad online (see Resources below). These are usually brightly colored balls made of paper or plastic strips. They can be seen across long distances and build excitement in a routine by substituting for stunts or advanced moves to keep the crowd entertained.
-
Step 4
Make or buy a sign, which is sometimes used to encourage the crowd to make noise. Select phrases to put on the sign that the crowd can shout out to support the home team.
-
Step 5
Use large cones called megaphones to help amplify your voice. Megaphones make it easier for cheerleaders to be heard over noisy crowds at most sporting events.
-
Step 6
Leading cheers can make you dehydrated or cause you to lose moisture from your body, especially on a hot, sunny day. Be sure to have water and snack supplies nearby. Select snacks that are high in carbohydrates which are good for creating quick energy.
