Things You'll Need:
- Car radio
-
Step 1
Keep your eye on the news, both local and national, a couple of days before you leave. Local news has regular traffic reports and the national news will cover any major motorway delays.
-
Step 2
Check traffic reports with the highway agency. This is the official service for news of motorway delays, and you can either visit their website (link below) or ring 08700 660 115. Their lines are open 24 hours a day.
-
Step 3
Get news of motorway delays sent to your mobile phone. This is a relatively new innovation that can be the most conveniant way of hearing traffic reports. The highways agency have details on their website.
-
Step 4
Listen to the radio when driving to keep up to date with delays. BBC Radio Five Live pride themselves on their regular traffic reports, concentrating mostly on news of motorway delays.
-
Step 5
Visit a Welcome Break service station. There are 24 of these with a highways agency information point where you can check on any traffic delays. At the moment the information points on a trial period, so there is no guarantee they will be a fixture.
