If you always wanted to become a UK Sports Champion, your chance is just a phone throw away. Enter the UK Mobile Phone Throwing Championships, a major sporting event that has been taking place in Finland since the dawn of the Millennium.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Disused mobile phones
  • Broken-down mobile phones
  • Unwanted mobile phones
  • Cash for entry fee
  • Strong throwing arm
  1. Step 1

Visit the 8th Day UK website and find out the schedule for the great event. The 8th Day UK has been organizing the UK Mobile Phone Throwing Championships in conjunction with the charity "ActionAid." So you don’t get to merely hurl mobile phones, you get to do it for charity.

  2. Step 2

Make your booking ahead, or just turn up at the venue and pay your dues there. Natives from all nations are welcome to participate.

  3. Step 3

Bring along your old, unwanted and disused mobile phones.

  4. Step 4

Hand the old mobile phones to the 8th Day UK Club and ActionAid members. The donated phones receive repairs, if required, and then are set for use in poor countries. If beyond repair, their parts are stripped and recycled.

  5. Step 5

Move on to the competition site and receive mobile phones from the organizers. These are the ones you are supposed to hurl.

  6. Step 6

Take a few deep breaths, reach as far back as you can and swing your arm forward, hurling the phone in a far-reaching forward trajectory. You only get 3 throws, so make the most of them.

  7. Step 7

Watch as other people finish their turns. Wait for the winner’s announcement. If it’s you, accept with class. Say some nice things about the losers.

Tips & Warnings
  • Two notable UK Mobile Phone Throwing Champions are Chris Hughff, who threw his phone to the grand distance of 92.30 m (and on his very first try, too!!) and Jan Singleton, who threw to a distance of 53.52 m.
  • Don’t forget to bring along your old mobile phones.
