How to Start the Hellfire Ramparts in World of Warcraft

Unless you're reckless or a consummate level grinder, the first instance you'll be running once you hit Outland is the Hellfire Ramparts. Most of the mobs in here are level 60 elite, so the instance is geared for levels 61+. Before you dive in, there are a few things you need to know. This guide will walk you through the Ramparts from start to finish.

Preparation

1. Bring Fire Resist. If you were a raider before Burning Crusade hit, you've probably got a set of Fire Resist gear lying around--bring it. Failing that, bring some Fire Protection potions. Paladins and Shamans also help (Paladins have a Fire Resist Aura, Shamans have a Fire Resist Totem.)

2. Make sure you stock up on food, water and reagents before you go. Honor Hold and Thrallmar aren't far away, but you still don't want to be excusing yourself midway through.

3. Collect the quests. There is a single quest you can pick up in Honor Hold or Thrallmar before you go, both of which are titled "Weaken the Ramparts."

Getting There

1. Head west from Honor Hold, past the tower and down to the giant wall that is the Ramparts.

2. Move along the wall until you see the meeting stone. Feel free to use the stone to summon your party members. To do this, bring a fellow party member along, click on the party member to summon so their portrait is next to yours, then right-click on the meeting stone. A portal will appear. Have your companion right-click on the portal to assist summoning.

3. Turn left from the meeting stone. See the instance portal? That's the Hellfire Ramparts.
