Step 1
Get your tickets. Tickets for the festival are priced at £20 for the concerts on Friday and Saturday. Children’s tickets are half price. The workshops cost £10 for adults and £8 for children. The Saturday piano session and Sunday concert are free. To purchase tickets, call 01258 472489. If you are calling from outside the UK call 0044 1258472489.
-
Step 2
Book your accommodation early. The area becomes understandably busy at this time of year and you should book bed and breakfast accommodation a few weeks before the event. You can find plenty of accommodation details on the official website address: www.ukboogiewoogiefestival.co.uk
-
Step 3
Get ready for the best of the best. Since its inception, the festival has presented the best international boogie woogie pianists, acoustic guitarists and dancers.
-
Step 4
Get down to Dorset. The festival is held at various locations. The concerts are at Port Regis Hall in Motcombe and the workshops will be held in the Springfield Trust House and Gardens in Fontmell Magna. The Crown Inn in Fontmell Magna is the location for the piano jam sessions, which are unbelievably lively, especially after a few drinks.
-
Step 5
Know what to expect. Concerts over the weekend feature grand pianos on stage with spectacular light shows. There will also be swing and tap dancing with the festival band providing accompaniment to the dancers.
-
Step 6
Take the kids. Children will love the dance and music workshops. Special workshops present history of boogie woogie and classes in swing and tap dance. There are also drumming workshops available.

on 3/31/2008 I am in the States & love as I call it "barrelhouse" piano music. Jack Dupree, who lived in England is one of my Faves. Check out Butch Thompson at butchthompson.com for modern "Boogie Woogie" piano music. One year, I'll try & make this festival. Thanks!
