The great thing about a baseball-theme birthday party is that you can throw one anytime of year, not just during baseball season. Kids who love the game don't care if it's January or July. And better yet, with the popularity of girl's softball, it's a fun theme suitable for everyone. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Use a permanent marker to write your invitation on small plastic baseballs. Then place the balls inside treat bags along with a few pieces of bubble gum and hand deliver to all the guests.

    • 2

Make a sign, using a piece of poster board, with a message welcoming guests to the family's stadium. Place it on your porch and punch small holes in the top corners to attach some balloons. Write, for example, "Welcome to Smith Field" in the center and then add some pictures of baseballs, bats or mitts. You can enlarge some clipart from your computer or color and cut pictures out of a baseball-theme coloring book.

    • 3

Rent a popcorn machine or cotton candy maker to serve up some yummy treats. Serve your dry snacks, like peanuts or chips, in upside down baseball caps. And of course, you can't have a baseball-theme party without hot dogs and root beer.

    • 4

Arrange to have a minor league baseball player come to the party to hold a baseball clinic. They can give kids tips on their game and when they're done, they can break into teams and play a few innings. They will also sign autographs so have some paper ready.

    • 5

Make table centerpieces by using small wooden toy bats as weights for red and white helium-filled balloons. You can also use a batting helmet as a centerpiece by feeding the ribbon through the hole on the side of the helmet and then tying them to a balloon weight hidden beneath the helmet.

    • 6

Send kids home with treat bags filled with foil-wrapped chocolate baseballs, bubble gum, baseball cards and candy-filled bats. Be sure and include a special thank you message with each bag.

Tips & Warnings

  • Instead of cake and ice cream, make round sugar cookies and decorate them like baseballs. It's easier to serve than cake because kids can help themselves.

  • If you serve peanuts or just plan to use them as some type of prize, make sure there are no children at the party with peanut allergies.
