Set up a "potions" table with some science type activities to keep kids entertained while waiting for all the party guests to arrive. You can get ideas from home science books for things like invisible ink or making goop. You could also provide some tea leaves and let them have fun guessing the shapes.

2
Play a spider web game. Take a small ball of yarn and tie a party favor on the end of it and weave the yarn all around the room. Repeat this step with different colors of yarn, until you have as many lines as you have party guests. Starting with the birthday child, have the kids choose a color of yarn. Then all at once they follow it until they reach the toy on the end.

3
Spray paint a ping pong ball gold and hide it somewhere in the yard before the party along with other magical-themed party favors. Send the kids on a treasure hunt and let them keep the prizes they find and award a special prize to whoever finds the golden snitch.

Adapt the traditional Pin the Tail on the Donkey game by playing Pin the Fire on the Dragon. Enlarge a picture of a dragon and hang it on the wall. Make pictures of flames using yellow construction paper and red markers and attach tape to the back so that it sticks onto the dragon. The child who gets the fire closest to the dragon's mouth, while blindfolded, wins.

5
Place some Bertie Botts Every Flavored Beans in a jar and have the kids guess how many are in the jar. Whoever has the closest guess gets to take them home.

6
Divide the kids into teams and hold a relay race. Have them put on a button down shirt, Harry Potter style wizard's hat and a black cape. Then ride a broom from one end of the yard and back. Then they remove the outfit and the next child puts it on and repeats until everyone on the team has finished.

7
Have the kids gather in a circle and put two chairs in the middle. The birthday child sits in one and as they open presents, the gift giver joins them in the other chair. When they're done, give the party guest a Harry Potter theme party favor and have them return to their seat.

Always plan more activities than you think you will need as they may not last as long as you think.
