A Christmas tree needs to find a safe way home from the tree farm, tree lot or store. You may not want to place it on the roof or you might be unable to do so because it is a potted tree. The following steps will help you in transporting a Christmas tree home in the car trunk.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 Ropes (one 20 foot and one 10 foot 1/4" nylon)
  • Blanket
  • Red or orange flag or ribbon
  • Knife or scissors
  1. Step 1

Take 30 feet of 1/4-inch thick nylon rope to the Christmas tree farm or store with you. Most places provide this but it is better to be safe then sorry.

  2. Step 2

Ask for the tree to be wrapped in a plastic net if possible. If the tree is in a container, place it in large bag if possible.

  3. Step 3

Place the tree with the base inside the trunk with the top of the tree sticking out the back, positioning as much of the tree as you can diagonally inside of the trunk.

  4. Step 4

Wrap the rope around the tree in several locations and tie it to the bottom latch of the trunk. Tie another end of a rope to the trunk's top latch. Pull the other end of the rope into the bottom latch.

  5. Step 5

Pull the rope so the trunk lid closes down onto the tree. Do this gently. Verify that the trunk is snug against the tree and tie it off. The trunk should not bob up and down too much. If it does, you have not tied it tight enough.

  6. Step 6

Tie a red or orange flag or ribbon to the top of the tree.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wear gloves and long sleeves to protect yourself from sap and scratches.
  • Place a blanket on the floor of the trunk to help eliminate mess.
  • Remember to check your mirrors when backing up.
  • Be cautious when making corners.
