From Quick Guide: Travel Healthy
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Plan your trip. Time spent in preparation for your trip will lessen your stress during the actual travel. Plan out every facet of your vacation so you are not stressed out about what you will do or where you will go.

  2. Step 2

Create a list. In your preparation, create a list of things you need to accomplish before you leave as well as items you may need to purchase to take with you.

  3. Step 3

Rest. One major key in avoiding stress headaches is to get plenty of rest. Maintain your normal sleep patterns before and while you are traveling.

  4. Step 4

Eat. Try to maintain a normal eating routine. Pack snacks for traveling if possible. Avoid foods that may cause headaches such as cheese, chocolate or processed meats.

  5. Step 5

Take time for yourself. If you feel yourself stressing out, take a break, go for a walk or go shopping. Sometimes the actual vacation can cause stress headaches, so don't be ashamed if you need to take a personal time out.

  6. Step 6

Stay away from alcoholic beverages as these may contain amino acid tyramine. This can be found in red wine and has been known to precipitate headaches.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep proper posture while traveling. This places the smallest amount of strain on your muscles, ligaments, tendons and bones, thus reducing stress on your body.
  • Avoid standing or sitting for long periods of time. This can cause muscle tension which can trigger stress headaches.
