Are you tired of sorting through a mess anytime you need to disconnect one of your computer cables? That mess of tangled, spaghetti-like electrical cords can be tamed rather simply with the right tools and techniques. Organize them into a manageable and attractive solution by using ties, channels and Velcro.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Labels
  • Cable organizing kit
  • Velcro ties
  • Zip ties
  1. Step 1

Ensure that all cables to be organized have been unplugged from any electrical outlet or source. Untangle all wires so that each is separate and removed from all others.

  2. Step 2

Purchase a cable channeling kit from any home improvement store, such as Home Depot or Lowe's. Lay the channel track according to desired path or design to an electrical outlet or receiving connector leaving at least 2 feet of open-ended clearance on either end.

  3. Step 3

Take care to label BOTH ends of every cable being organized. Each label should have the device's designation and name.

  4. Step 4

Snake the cables one at a time through the cable channel until desired length is reached. Leave all cables unplugged until all cables have been placed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use Velcro ties in areas where cables are interchanged often for easy access.
  • Bunch cables together and zip tie them for an easy, fast and organized cable grouping.
  • USB cables can be grouped in USB 1.1 or 2.0 designations for easier recognition.
  • Never leave any cables plugged in to any source on either end connector while organizing cables.
  • Always leave enough extra slack length of cable at either end of channel for extension and to ensure cable does not fray.
