How to Download Animated GIF Files

Since their introduction in 1989 by CompuServe, animated GIFs have been extremely common on the Internet, used by businesses and the public alike. The old format was widely accepted not only because GIFs were already popular, but also due to the ease of download by even the slowest modems. Even though animated GIFs are now a somewhat dying art, there are still plenty of sites dedicated to the first image format that supported animation, and equally plenty of ways to download free animated GIFs.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Open your Web browser and navigate to a search site such as Google.
Step2
Search for "animated gifs." Use the quotes at your discretion, since it will change the results of your search.
Step3
Navigate to and through one of the sites in the results.
Step4
Right-click on the images you wish to save and select "Save Image As." Select your destination folder, and click "Save" to download it.
Step5
Repeat steps 2 through 4 as many times as you like.

Tips & Warnings

  • The words in quotation marks listed in step 4 are for the Firefox browser. However, the same directions apply for any browser. "Save Picture As" is the term used by Internet Explorer. If you use neither, there should still be an equivalent option.
