Step 1
Helping her mom with the dishes and going to church every Sunday brings to mind the "girl next door." She gets good grades in school and goes to the prom with the "boy next door" gender. Though she may occasionally yearn to sneak out of the house to get wild and crazy, she rarely misbehaves. She is afraid of bugs and spiders. The "girl next door" usually grows up to be a girlie-girl."
-
Step 2
Climbing trees with the boys and playing tackle football are traits of the "tomboy" gender. Tomboys are rough and tough and think girlie things are for "sissies." They are afraid of bugs and spiders but don't show it. This attitude persists until the tomboy discovers boys. Tomboys rarely grow up to be manly-girls or girlie-girls; they exist somewhere on a level in between--the "tom-lady."
-
Step 3
Playing baseball and football, fixing old cars in the backyard and helping his dad build a doghouse are traits of the "boy next door" gender. This particular gender loves to chase girlie-girls with frogs and snakes; he is not afraid of bugs or spiders. He will also stick up for his friends and help the little old lady down the street. The "boy next door" rarely grows up to be a "girlie-man."
-
Step 4
Helping mom put on her make-up and asking if he can wear it too are traits of the "girlie-boy" gender. The "girlie-boy" was previously known as a sissy; however, it is no longer politically correct to say that. A "girlie-boy" is afraid of bugs and spiders, afraid of playing football and afraid of the "boy next door" gender. Girlie-boys rarely grow up to be manly-men and are most often "girlie-men." With early manly intervention, "girlie-boys" can grow up to be manly-men; however, take care that they do not become "overly manly-men."
-
Step 5
Knocking a pervert to the ground or fixing her own car is the trait of the "manly-woman." A manly-woman is still a woman, but she's not afraid to get down and dirty. She is not afraid of bugs or spiders. A manly-woman may still have all the feminine traits of a "girlie-woman"--such as taking care of her family, cooking and baking--but she will kick your butt when needed.
-
Step 6
Cooking, baking and making homemade curtains are the traits of a "girlie-woman." A girlie-woman is afraid of bugs and spiders and cannot fix her own vehicle. A girlie-woman can, however, turn a house upside down when decorating, bake from scratch and take care of sick family and friends. A girlie-woman is easily disgusted at a dirty house.
-
Step 7
Baking a cake from scratch and riding a motorcycle cross-country are traits of the "tom-lady." Happily, most grown-up American women are tom-ladies. They can grow a garden, cook a full-course meal and tile a bathroom. Tom-ladies will still play football with their children. They are afraid of bugs and spiders, but don't show it. These women can be very gentle most of the time. Do not attempt to harm any of their loved ones, however, or you'll think you've just tangled with a manly-man.
-
Step 8
Hammering nails, sawing wood and repairing the house are traits of the "manly-man." A manly-man can fix his own vehicle and rewire a house. A manly-man knows everything about construction and cars; he can build a house from the ground up. A manly-man only cries if absolutely necessary; never at a wedding, only a funeral. A manly-man defends his family, his friends and his country. A manly-man is not concerned with his looks and is not afraid of bugs or spiders.
-
Step 9
Spending hours primping in front of a mirror and worrying about his looks are traits of the "girlie-man." The girlie-man is afraid of manly-men, manly-women and tom-ladies. The girlie-man cooks, bakes and decorates--not because he has to, but because he wants to. A girlie-man cries at weddings and is afraid of bugs and spiders.

on 12/15/2009 I hated playing football when I was growing up, and I like to cook, therefore I'm girlie? What a bunch of insulting garbage.
