Building or remodeling a home can be an overwhelming task with all of the details involved. Home plumbing fixtures can add character to your kitchen or bathroom. The right choice can enhance and define the style you're seeking to create. Choose plumbing fixtures that complement the overall design of your home. Here's how to get started.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start with the basic decisions. Quality and price are always at the top of the list of considerations. While you will want to stay within your budget when choosing your home plumbing fixtures, you also probably want to get the highest quality within your price range.

  2. Step 2

Choose your bathroom fixtures by thinking about function first. Tall people might want to consider the taller commodes with elongated bowls. They sit higher off the floor, have more room on the seat and may be more comfortable. Choose a toilet that is water efficient, too. Several brands have energywise toilet tanks for saving on your water bill.

  3. Step 3

Look at the styles of bathroom sinks and tubs. There are several factors to consider. Can your budget accommodate a garden tub? If it fits into your budget, consider the luxury of having a jetted tub for the whirlpool and spa atmosphere. There are several types of sinks to choose from. Choose the size that best suits your bathroom. Also, consider a tub-style laundry sink for your laundry room or mud room.

  4. Step 4

Plan your kitchen. Home plumbing fixtures in the kitchen can create any atmosphere you want. White porcelain sinks with matching faucets create a bright, country look. Stainless steel is always a good traditional choice and can be dressed up or down by the choice of faucets. If you spend a lot of time cooking or cook for large crowds, you might want to consider the higher arched faucets that have more clearance room from spout to sink bottom. These are great for washing large pots and pans.

  5. Step 5

Remember that your faucets and handles should complement your kitchen or bathroom sink styles and overall theme. Their colors and shades can be coordinated with your cabinet colors. Chrome, stainless steel and nickel usually look best with lighter wood cabinets. Brass and copper are good choices to complement darker wood cabinets.
