Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Respond to the invitation promptly. Whoever is responsible for organizing the party will need to deliver a full head count to the venue by a certain date and your cooperation is important.
Step2
Arrive on time. Holiday parties run on a tight schedule and showing up after dinner may throw off the staff. Even if the affair is less formal, showing up on time demonstrates that you appreciate your company's gesture of hosting the party.
Step3
Stay away from the alcohol. As tempting as it might be to relax with a drink, it's far too easy to get carried away and end up in an embarrassing situation. If you insist on drinking, have one or two at the start of the evening and then switch to water. Doing so will prevent a career-threatening blunder.
Step4
Dress conservatively. If the party is taking place offsite, it is easy to assume that you won't need to follow the same dress code that you do during business hours. But flashy or revealing clothes should be left on the hanger.
Step5
Make friendly conversation with as many coworkers as possible. The holiday party may be the only chance you get all year to network with people from other departments. Take advantage of the opportunity but don't bore them with too much talk about work.
Step6
Avoid making negative comments out loud about the quality of the party. If the venue and the food are mediocre yet you know that the company posted records profits last quarter, keep it to yourself. Complaining is tacky and reflects poorly on your manners if anyone accidentally hears you.
Step7
Keep a close eye on the date you bring and avoid making any public displays of affection. Have a discussion prior to the party about how the two of you will work the room without causing any questionable scenarios.
