Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Be honest. This is the most important thing to remember. Whether you are dealing with a client, staff, co-worker or business affiliate, always be honest. When proposing a business deal with an affiliate, be clear and concise on what you want to accomplish for your business and for theirs.
Step2
Thank and reward a referring business for any clients they send your way. Many companies offer free products or services based on the number of referrals that they receive. At the very least, send a thank-you card.
Step3
Give referrals as often as you receive them. This is a great way to grow your business and advertise inexpensively, especially for a smaller business. Have your referring company's business cards handy and available.
Step4
Respect other people's businesses, even if you feel that yours is superior and you want them to leave their company to join yours. If you disrespect or downplay their business or product, they will lose respect for your business and you will risk losing referrals.
Step5
Educate yourself on not only your own products and services but the other company's as well. You want to be sure that you know what you're talking about while networking with others.
