Writing restaurant reviews can be a fun and challenging way to express your love of quality cuisine. To write a restaurant review, you must have a keen eye for detail, sound knowledge of food and an understanding of restaurant esthetics.

Things You'll Need:

  • Knowledge of restaurant terminology
  • Refined palate
  1. Step 1

    Choose the restaurant you want to review. Make reservations.

  2. Step 2

    Dine at the restaurant. Make mental notes on the menu and wine list, cleanliness, décor, atmosphere, other patrons, staff including kitchen staff and host, location, parking, restrooms, cuisine, presentation and creativity.

  3. Step 3

    Compose the review as soon as possible after dining. Use detail when describing the food and atmosphere of the restaurant.

  4. Step 4

    Describe the exterior and interior of the restaurant in your introduction. Next, discuss the staff and typical patrons who might enjoy this restaurant. Then describe the food, taste, plating and presentation. Conclude with your recommendation.

  5. Step 5

    Query your local newspaper or other publication to sell you review. Or publish it on your own restaurant review blog.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try several courses to get a good understanding of the food.
  • Take your time looking over the menu. Remember the names and descriptions of items on the menu.
  • Do not tell anyone at the restaurant that you are reviewing it.
  • Do not take notes in the restaurant.
