Things You'll Need:
- Grocery list
- Store map
- Coupon organizer
-
Step 1
Make a list. One of the biggest time-savers for your grocery store trip is to have a list. A good way to make a list is to plan menus for the week's meals and generate the list from that.
-
Step 2
Know the setup of your supermarket or grocery store. Usually a store map is available for customers. Knowing where everything is in your store ensures that you will get what you need quicker. Consider making your grocery list by aisle. It will save you a considerable amount of time, and after a while you will know your grocery store's layout backwards and forwards.
-
Step 3
Go to the store alone. Although it is sometimes necessary to take your children with you, try to avoid doing that as much as possible. Grocery shopping with your kids can add a lot of time to your "quick" trip.
-
Step 4
Organize your coupons. When using coupons for your groceries organize them so you don't have to search through them to find what you need. Stores sell accordion organizers made specifically for coupons. At the checkout, have all usable coupons on hand to give to the cashier right away so they don't have to go back and check your bags for the items.
-
Step 5
Avoid the crowds. Late at night and early morning are the best times to shop and avoid a lot of people. There are a number of stores that are open late, or even 24 hours, which gives you plenty of opportunities to sail through the checkout without a wait.
-
Step 6
Have your groceries delivered. Many major chains now offer deliveries right to your door. You can order your items online or call the store. This will cost you more than traditional shopping, but when you are short on time, it can be a lifesaver.
