1
Learn everything you can about horses and riding. You should be a very experienced rider before trying to become a riding instructor. You don't want to teach people the wrong information.
-
2
Apply at a riding stable to become an instructor or at least a helper or apprentice. You will probably be hired to be an apprentice until you can prove that you are qualified to work with horses and students.
-
-
3
Take classes at a local school for equine studies. You can never study too much or have too much experience.
-
4
Put an ad in the local paper and put flyers up at the tack and feed stores. You can get your own clients this way. If you don't have a barn or stable where you can work, go to the client's home to teach them.
-
5
Get insurance. Riding instructors need to have good insurance coverage because horses can be unpredictable. If you teach at a stable, you will have to join their insurance coverage. If you are running your own business, you will have to apply for coverage on your own.
-
6
Become a certified riding instructor. This is not necessary in most cases, but it will make you look more professional, especially if you are running your own business.
