No matter how math may have challenged you in the past, any student can pass the GED math test with a little preparation. Follow these steps.

From Quick Guide: Take a Test
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

    Part 1

  1. Step 1

Ask what type of calculator will be available for the GED math test. Students are supplied with a calculator to use on the first section of the test.

  2. Step 2

Practice using your calculator. Ease in working with the functions of your calculator will save time and mental energy and help you pass the test.

  3. Step 3

Review basic geometry. Many students forget the Pythagorean Theorem and how it can be used. It is often included in questions on the GED math test.

  4. Step 4

Practice basic algebra. Although the higher levels of math are not covered by the test, basic algebra is always included. Remember how to find "x" in an equation.

  5. Part 2

  6. Step 1

Practice solving math problems with a pencil and paper. The second part of the GED math test must be completed without a calculator.

  7. Step 2

Review fractions, decimals and percents - these are the areas of the test where students often lose points.

  8. Step 3

Find a fourth-grader and help him learn his multiplication tables. The best way to learn these yourself is to teach someone else and knowing these basic facts will help you pass the test.

Tips & Warnings
  • Read carefully. Forty percent of math errors are actually reading errors. Make sure you know what the question is asking.
  • Find a tutor. If it's been a long time or math was not your favorite subject in school, taking time to review with a tutor can help you pass the GED math test.
