Step 1
Go to the "Millionaire" website and click on "auditions" in the left column of the home page. This will take you to a page on which you can sign up to audition in New York City.
-
Step 2
Fill out the online audition form, which will ask you for basic information that includes contact information. The form will also ask you to choose from several dates and times that are available for auditions in New York. Submit this form and wait for "Millionaire" to contact you.
-
Step 3
Return to the website in a couple of weeks if you are not available for the dates on the drop-down list. "Millionaire" provides new audition dates every few weeks or so, and it pays to check back later.
-
Step 1
Check the "Millionaire" website to find out if the show is conducting "auditions across America." When the show hits the road and conducts auditions, they are usually held in local shopping malls.
-
Step 2
Arrive early at any of the traveling audition sites. Most contestants who have auditioned at remote locations say they arrive for a 9 a.m. audition at 7 a.m.
-
Step 3
Brush up on movie trivia. Occasionally, "Millionaire" auditions potential contestants on the road for its "Million Dollar Movie Week." That means auditioners will be asked to take a regular test and a test that concentrates on movies.
-
Step 1
Take the 40-question test at the audition. The test is in the same format as the show, with 4 choices for each question. Most contestants say the general knowledge test is easier than they expected, and takes about 10 minutes.
-
Step 2
Participate in a 30-second interview with a show producer, once you pass the test. Producers say that out of every 100 people who audition, about 10 to 15 individuals pass the test.
-
Step 3
Wait a week or two to receive a postcard from "Millionaire" that says you've officially been placed in the contestant pool and are now eligible to appear on a future show if chosen. Remember that even if you pass the test, your interview is the determining factor on whether you are chosen for the show.
-
Step 1
Wait for "Millionaire" to call and give you a date for the show on which you will appear. Contestants say they usually were notified about 1month in advance of the show date.
-
Step 2
Call a maximum of 5 people who can act as your "phone-a-friends" during the show. Remember that these "phone-a-friends" will need to stay close to a land-line phone from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the day of the taping.
-
Step 3
Complete a three-page questionnaire about possible topics that the host, Meredith Vieira, can talk about when you're on the air.
-
Step 4
Read and sign the "Millionaire" rules, a 50-page document that dictates everything you'll need to do, including what to wear and what not to wear.

on 11/10/2009 I auditioned, passed the test, had a brief interview, was videotaped answering some personal questions and haven't heard a thing and it's been almost 3 weeks. Very disappointing.

on 11/9/2009 Previous comments sound like sour grapes to me. I passed the written test last year but did not make it through the 30 second interview. I am going again this week to a taping, and when i hopefully pass the written test, this time I will give them a hard-luck story. They don't seem to want contestants who aren't desperate for the money. In my original taping/audition only 6 people of the 100 in the audience passed the test and were interviewed.

on 9/1/2009 I also hate that they don't tell you how many you got wrong. I thought the test was simple and only got one or two wrong. You must have to have a perfect test score. I only traveled from CT but I felt bad for people who traveled far. I agree with above post. I get so aggravated when I see some of the people that made it on the show. I sit home and think how could they NOT know that and still have made it on the show! GRRRRRR!

on 7/8/2009 I auditioned recently. I personally feel that the cut off is CRUEL. Out of 100 persons in the room, they selected only 8.
The worst part is that they do not tell you how much you made and WHAT was the cutoff.
Do they expect you to fill your mind with all the garbage in the world for Pete's sake.
MAKE THE AUDITIONS MORE ENJOYABLE you ABC folks !
This is such a BIG disappointment, Since I drove all the way from Dayton Ohio.
This is the second time this has happened and I find myself answering most of the questions which stump the contestants when the show comes on TV.
Even Jeopardy is like that. I was sure that I had answered 25 out of 30 questions correctly and still did not make the cut
HAVE SOME MERCY FELLAS !
