Outlook Express is usually part of Windows, and acts as the main email program. Follow these steps and you soon will be transmitting your own emails.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access
  • Outlook Express
  • Email address
Step1
Open Outlook Express by double-clicking the program icon on your desktop. If you cannot find the icon, click "Start" and find Outlook Express in the program menu.
Step2
Click "Create Mail" or "Write Mail" to open the email page. A blank email appears.
Step3
Type an email address in the "To:" box. Look over each letter you type to make sure you have not made a mistake. It doesn't matter if you use capital or lowercase letters. There are no spaces in an email address.
Step4
Press the "Tab" key on the keyboard to move to the "Subject" box or use your mouse to click in the "Subject" window. Type a short one or two word topic into the "Subject" box. The person receiving the email will see the subject or topic and know what the email is about.
Step5
Click the left side of your mouse in the large white area of the email. Your cursor will now jump to this area so that you can type your letter. Type the body of your email.
Step6
Click "Send" to send the email. The email message will now go to the person listed in the email address.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check and double-check the email address. You want the email message to go to the person you intend.
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Don't type in all capital letters. This means you are yelling at the recipient.
