Peperomias rank among the easiest plants to propagate with tip cuttings or leaf cuttings. Using tip cuttings will produce new plants more quickly.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rooting powder
  1. Step 1

Select a healthy portion of the plant you want to propagate and remove a 3 inch cutting from the tip. For best results, attempt propagation in the spring or early summer.

  2. Step 2

Dip the bottom tip of the propagated stem into a cup of water and then into rooting hormone powder. Lightly shake off excess powder until a thin coating remains on the stem. Rooting powder can be purchased at most garden centers.

  3. Step 3

Fill a small 3 inch pot with a slightly moist potting mix. Peperomia propagations need aerated soil, so choose a mix high in perlite or coarse sand. Create your own mix by mixing one part peat moss with one part perlite or coarse sand.

  4. Step 4

Place the cutting in bright light but away from direct sunlight. The cutting should not be exposed to a temperature below 65 degrees F.

  5. Step 5

Water the Peperomia propagation sparingly. Allow the soil to completely dry out before watering. Over watering will cause cuttings to rot before they root.

  6. Step 6

Move cuttings to larger pots when they have filled their original pots with roots. Peperomia propagations will be rooted and growing in four to six weeks.

  7. Step 7

Root several cuttings at the same time and when they have filled their pots with roots move them all into one pot. This will give you a new, full Peperomia plant.
