Step 1
Start a blog. Join a hosted blogging site such as Google's Blogger or Wordpress if you want to blog for free. These sites are easy to use with great tutorials for users who do not have advanced technical knowledge about blogging so are a good place to start. You can also register a website domain and do your own blog if you have advanced technical skills.
-
Step 2
Post in your blog. Write about things that interest you or that you feel showcases your talent. If you want to pursue freelance writing jobs about a particular subject write about that subject. You can also use your blog to showcase your ability to write about different subjects.
-
Step 3
Promote your blog. If you promote your blog to others, they can comment on it and may bookmark you. This can help you establish your blog as an active place. Use promotional tools like hit counters to show prospective employers that people visit your blog and see you as an authority.
-
Step 4
Publish testimonials. List testimonials from happy employers who have used your freelance writing services in the past (with their permission of course) to show prospective employers your reputation. By putting this all on your blog, you give people the ability to browse freely to find information about you.
-
Step 5
Place a bio section on your blog. You can include information here about how to reach you, what types of work you do, what your freelance writing rates are or anything else you would like people to see. If you make your blog a resume, applying for new jobs becomes as simple as pasting a URL into an e-mail to direct potential clients to samples of your work and everything they need to know about you from a freelance writing perspective. Making the hiring process easier for them can result in increasing your ability to land more jobs.
