Keep the oil fresh in your lawn mower and you'll get longer use out of this valuable tool. Follow these easy steps to change the oil in your lawn mower yourself.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Start by removing the drain plug to drain the oil into an oil pan. Doing so, while the engine is slightly warm (not hot) will ensure the old oil drains easier.
Step2
Replace the drain plug after all old oil has drained.
Step3
Remove dipstick. Refill your lawn mower with new oil. Be sure to use the recommended grade that is listed in the instructions that came with your mower, or listed on the side of your lawn mower.
Step4
Start the engine and let it run at idle for about 30 minutes.
Step5
Stop the engine. Wait about 1 minute and then check the oil level. Add more oil if dipstick determines additional is needed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check the oil before every use to ensure there is no leak. Running an engine on little or no oil can burn it up quickly.
  • Change the oil every 24 hours of running lawn mower use.
  • Fumes are very dangerous. Work only in a garage or shed that has good ventilation. Also, always be sure to stay clear of heat and open flame when working with oil or gas.
