How to Talk to a Group of Teenagers

Communicating with teenagers doesn't require you to learn a new language. You can get your points across by speaking from the heart and following these steps.

1. Determine what the age group is of the teenagers you will be addressing. Make your talk fit to this age group and you will be successful. Addressing 13 year olds will be vastly different from addressing the more adult 16 to 17 age range.

2. Ask any teenagers in your life about the latest teen happenings and news. Find out who the celebrity teens are, what the latest teen music sensation craze is, what teenagers like to eat and where the best teen hangouts are. Reference this information throughout your talk.

3. Keep the talk succinct and you'll hold your audience's attention.

4. Make eye contact and smile while you speak. Create a bond with your audience.

5. Listen and respond accordingly to any questions that the teenagers may have for you. This is key in establishing a solid relationship with the group. If you want them to listen to you, you have to listen to them.
