Even if you do not consider yourself handy around the house, you never know when you are going to need simple tools like a screwdriver or a wrench. You can put together a basic toolbox in just one trip to the home-improvement store.

From Quick Guide: Common Tools in a Toolbox
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Buy a toolbox. It does not have to be big or fancy. All you need is a basic model in metal or plastic that has one removable tray.

  2. Step 2

Invest in a 16-ounce hammer, the kind with a curved claw used for removing nails.

  3. Step 3

Purchase a screwdriver set. While it is most convenient to buy a full set of different-sized screwdrivers, one regular and one No. 2 Phillips will suffice.

  4. Step 4

    Buy an adjustable crescent wrench.

  5. Step 5

Find a pair of needle-nose pliers.

  6. Step 6

Pick up a sturdy tape measure with at least 12 feet of tape.

  7. Step 7

Buy a selection of nails and screws. Go for a prepackaged assortment to avoid having to purchase numerous boxes.

  8. Step 8

Consider buying a roll or 2 of duct tape.

  9. Step 9

Purchase a utility knife with replacement blades.

  10. Step 10

Arrange your new tools in your toolbox.
