How to Let Go of the Fear of Aging

Many people have a difficult time accepting aging. Fear and anxiety over the passing years can show in your face and only make matters worse. Follow these steps to cope with this natural process.

Instructions

    • 1

Start noticing the beautiful characteristics about your face. Accept the wrinkles and lines as years of experience and growth. Each wrinkle can represent something you achieved or overcome.

    • 2

Make a list of all the wonderful traits you have and of things you are good at. Sometimes we forget what we have accomplished and it is good to remind yourself of where you have been and what you have done.

    • 3

Stay young in spirit by doing activities that you haven't done since you were young. Go bike riding, play a board or video game, or eat cotton candy at an amusement park. Whatever you choose, it is bound to make you feel refreshed and young at heart. People who enjoy themselves and keep young in spirit tend to have a young appearance.

    • 4

Convince yourself that aging is unimportant! It is a natural part of life and by fighting against it can only make someone age faster.

    • 5

Stay open to current trends in culture including movies, books and music. You don't have to enjoy the "next big thing," but be open to its possibilities.

    • 6

Take classes, challenge your perspective, question your long-held beliefs. Don't allow your mind to stagnate.

    • 7

Refrain from nostalgia. Yesterday is gone and time spent focused on it, robs you of tomorrow. The "good old days" are right now. Remember the words of that great sage, Tony Soprano, who said, "Remember when is the lowest form of conversation."

    • 8

Socialize with younger people. Don't discard friends your age, but expose yourself to younger perspectives and tastes. Refrain from judging these new ideas and look deep to discover their value.

    • 9

Never be too sure of anything. The world is in constant flux. Remind yourself that it is better to run out of answers before you run out of questions.

    • 10

Maintain social contacts and never stop exploring and enjoying your sexuality.
