Step1
Prepare yourself for what the results of your findings will be. If your spouse is cheating, think about what you will do. Examine options like trying to work things out with your spouse and seeing a counselor or, on the other end of the spectrum, divorce. You may want to speak to a lawyer before you confront your spouse.
Step2
Look for unusual changes in behavior. Sometimes at the beginning of an affair, the cheating spouse will become overly loving to compensate for their feelings of guilt. They may buy presents or do other things that they would not normally do without a reason.
Step3
Take a look at their recent schedule. If they've begun excessively working late, going on unusual company trips or having unexpected work meetings, they may be up to something else. Cheating spouses exhibit a desire to be alone more often than usual.
Step4
Examine their cell phone bill. It will list every call made and received from his or her phone and will show you any suspicious numbers. Look first for calls made in the morning just after they have left the house or calls made on their drive home.
Step5
Check to see if your spouse has taken a new-found interest in his or her appearance. If they're doing things like buying a lot of new clothes and underwear, cologne or perfume and updating their appearance in other ways, that may be a telltale sign that they're doing it for someone other than you.
Step6
Examine their spending habits. Watch out for odd purchases and large withdrawals of cash from your bank account. Check for receipts in their wallet. Also make sure the times stamped on the receipts matches up with the story they tell you.
Step7
Track the mileage on their car. Some experts recommend jotting down a log of their mileage and arrival times each day. If your spouse is driving many more miles than they normally would or filling up their tank more often, that will indicate they're going somewhere that they didn't frequent before.
Step8
Do their laundry. It's almost a cliché, but lipstick on the collar is a dead giveaway. If your spouse's clothes smell like someone else's perfume or cologne, you will have to wonder how it got there.
Step9
Take a look at your spouse's credit card bill and see if there are expenditures that might indicate a romantic rendezvous, such as restaurant charges for dinners you didn't attend.
Step10
This should probably be Step 1: Skip the espionage and ask! Many cheating spouses are eager to confess.
Step11
Hire a private investigator. A PI can be expensive, but a professional can gather evidence more quickly than you.
