For strawberry shortcake lovers, a strawberry trifle dessert is a delicious twist on a classic dessert. This recipe is easy to make, and it is perfect for a spring picnic or backyard barbecue. You will want to use fresh strawberries for the best results.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Baked white or yellow cake
  • Strawberry jam
  • Instant vanilla pudding
  • Whipped cream
  • Fresh sliced strawberries
  1. Step 1

    Prepare a sheet cake or angel food cake following the recipe on the box. Allow the cake to cool before slicing into small squares.

  2. Step 2

    Make the instant vanilla pudding following the recipe on the box while the cake is cooling.

  3. Step 3

    Gather the remaining ingredients and a trifle bowl.

  4. Step 4

    Layer the ingredients in the following order: cake squares, strawberry jam and vanilla pudding. Repeat the process two more times and then spread the whipped cream on top.

  5. Step 5

    Sprinkle fresh sliced strawberries on the top of the trifle.

  6. Step 6

    Refrigerate until time to serve the dessert.

Tips & Warnings
  • For a lighter recipe, make a light sheet cake by replacing the vegetable oil with applesauce. You can also replace the instant vanilla pudding with a sugar-free instant vanilla pudding, and the whipped cream with light or fat free whipped cream.
  • Substitute a glass trifle bowl for any large glass or crystal bow that will allow you to see the layers of the trifle.
  • Serve the trifle with extra sliced strawberries and a mint leaf on the side for decoration.
