How to Stop Walking on Eggshells With Co-Workers

Dealing with forceful or petty co-workers can be difficult. Many of us have the tendency to give into these people because it will be easier or less stressful in the long run. Stop walking on eggshells with these co-workers. Their power lies in your weakness and you can easily bring these difficult people to their knees by simply being honest, organized and straightforward.

1. Create a schedule to show how much work you have to do. If a co-worker decides that they want your help and you don't have the time, you can give them a visual of your schedule, offer to help them out next time and go back to work.

2. Be assertive when you need something done. If you need help and you know your co-worker has the time to help, don't ask. Walk over, show them what needs to be done, and tell them you really appreciate their support.

3. Offer to help only if you have the time. Helping a co-worker creates a good working environment, but not finishing your own commitments can create a big problem for you.

4. Give advice to your co-workers only if they ask. If your answer is on the negative side, be honest but motivating. Give suggestions on how to improve instead of pointing out everything they are doing wrong.

5. Stand up for yourself! If you have made the right decision, even if it makes more work for you and your co-workers, stand by your decision. Making the right choice is better than making the popular one.

6. Avoid petty conversations with your co-workers about other people. If you are drawn into one of these conversations, politely excuse yourself and go back to work
