How to Put Clickable RSS Feeds on MySpace with Widgetbox

MySpace doesn't allow JavaScript in profiles, so it's difficult to put clickable RSS feeds on a MySpace page. Widgetbox, a source for open-web widget items, has solved that problem by creating a flash-driven "blidget" for RSS feeders. Instead of the links normally found in a RSS feed, the Widgetbox blidget adds a clickable button. The service is free.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Sign up for a Widgetbox account and a MySpace account. It will take a few minutes to get the MySpace account profile and blog set up. If you already have accounts with both companies, log onto their websites.

  2. Step 2

Click on the "Make a Blidget" button on Widgetbox.

  3. Step 3

Enter your blog's URL. This URL can be found on your MySpace homepage.

  4. Step 4

Adjust the color, width and height to match the MySpace layout you have chosen. Add tags and a description to make it easier for other blidgets to find your blog. Create a title and header image to personalize the blidget. Click on "Publish Blidget."

  5. Step 5

Select the "Add to MySpace" button. The next form asks for your MySpace email address and password. This step edits your MySpace profile for you. For security purposes, change your password before performing this step. When you've set up everything correctly, change your password again.

  6. Step 6

Choose the location for the blidget in your MySpace profile. Click "OK."

  7. Step 7

Copy and paste the Widgetbox blidget code that appears in your MySpace profile to move it.

Tips & Warnings
  • The Widgetbox blidget may also be used to set up clickable RSS feeds on other major blogs as well as MySpace.
  • Click the black button next to an item on the RSS feed that you would like to read, and it will open.
