Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Prepare a stellar resume or CV. So often, recruiters and employers see the traditional format, black-and-white resume created in an everyday word processor. Make yours stand out. Seek out a designer friend or hire a designer to make your resume truly work for you as a marketing tool.
Step2
Learn all that you can about a company you're interested in, or the specific type of position you're seeking. The more informed you are, the more impressive you'll be.
Step3
Network to find leads through others. If there is a specific company you're interested in, ask around to see if anyone you know has a connection there. If you're able to get in touch with someone within the company, you're one step ahead.
Step4
Be aggressive. Once you get a potential lead on a job opportunity, go for it. Whether you're responding to a posted ad or simply contacting a hiring manager, go after the job you long for with persistence.
Step5
Market yourself. Paired with your resume, your cover letter is often the very first impression a potential employer gets of you. Write a cover letter that is striking, shows ethusiasm and relevance and makes it difficult for a hiring manager to overlook you. If you aren't the best writer, enlist a friend for family member for some guidance.
Step6
Follow up. A week after sending the appropriate person your application materials for a job, give them a phone call or send them an e-mail to show your continued interest. To ease your worry, ask what their anticipated schedule for hiring is.
Step7
Remain persistent and interested. Soon the right interview will come your way.
