You buy a black MacBook for its sleek, smooth and clean look, only to find that it is grimy and dingy within a few weeks. Don't fret. Although these laptops are prone to stubborn oil marks because of their matte finish, you can clean your black MacBook in a variety of ways.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Turn off your Macbook, take out the power cord and remove the internal battery. Although you are not going to intentionally wet your Macbook, it is safest to have all electrical components removed while you clean.

  2. Step 2

Try Apple's recommended cleaning method and simply wipe the casing with a soft, lint-free cloth that is damp but not wet. Clean the screen the same way, with a new, clean lint-free cloth or paper towel that is also damp.

  3. Step 3

Use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for tough smudges and dirt. First, wipe the MacBook with a dry, microfiber cloth (like a glasses cleaner) to remove any surface dust. Then wet the Magic Eraser and wring it out until it is moist-not wet, but not bone-dry either. Wipe the casing, track pad and surface of the keyboard with the Magic Eraser. Dry with a new, clean microfiber cloth.

  4. Step 4

Purchase iKear's iPod, MacBook and MacBook Pro Cleaning Kit, which comes with a spray bottle of specially formulated cleaning solution, a large micro-chamois polishing cloth, plus a travel-sized micro-chamois cloth and wet-wipe travel singles. Apply the spray-on solution and wipe dry with the polishing cloth for heavy-duty cleaning. Or, when you're on the go, use the travel wet-wipes and dry with the travel-sized cloth.

  5. Step 5

Maintain your brand new, clean MacBook look with routine wipe downs with a microfiber cloth. Ask an optometrist for a glasses cleaning cloth to use.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy the original Magic Eraser to clean your MacBook, rather than the new Magic Eraser Foaming Cleaner.
  • Do not get moisture in any of the openings of your MacBook. If liquid does get inside while cleaning, leave your MacBook off and unplugged for several hours while it dries out.
